Introduction to
Driving Education Award
A structured qualification pathway for the next generation of driving instructors
A New Standard for
Driving Education
The Introduction to Driving Education Award provides a comprehensive and structured training qualification for potential driving instructors (PDIs), equipping them with all the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to teach learner drivers to be safe, confident drivers post-test — whilst adhering to DVSA standards for road safety.
Development took seven months and included consultations with industry experts, respected academics in the driving field, and a dedicated meeting with the DVSA. The result is a comprehensive training package aimed at giving participants unmatched insights into road safety, technology, and becoming the very best driving teacher they can be.
Made up of 13 progressive ideaIntro-units — starting with your own driving fundamentals and ending with the knowledge to build a successful business as a driving teacher. Each ideaIntro-unit includes assignments required to complete the qualification.
Each ideaIntro-unit is priced individually — you pay as you learn. Enrol in one ideaIntro-unit at a time, complete training and assignments, then progress to the next. Aim to complete all 13 ideaIntro-units within two years to qualify for the full Award.
Awarded at SCQF Level 5 / 25 credit points in April 2025, this qualification has been SCQF credit-rated by SQA — The Scottish Qualifications Authority, one of the UK's most respected accreditation bodies.
Suited to anyone thinking about becoming a driving instructor, professionals in the fleet industry, or existing ADIs wanting to deepen their knowledge and understanding. Training is delivered in-car and online by Diploma-qualified trainers.
